In its 2013 endorsement of Ali, The New York League of Conservation Voters described her as a “true environmental champion” with an “impressive record of accomplishment and vision for an even greener, healthier future.”
Ali knows that we can no longer ignore the causes or effects of climate change. In Albany, she’ll work to reduce carbon emissions, protect our natural resources and open spaces, and ensure that our air, water, and land are safe for future generations:
- Protect Our Drinking Water: Safe water supplies and modern, reliable, and efficient water systems are important to the health of our communities and our future economic growth, yet New York State has neglected local water systems for years. Ali will make water quality and the protection of our lakes, rivers, and streams a top priority.
- Close Indian Point: Indian Point is just too risky. It sits near two fault lines, is vulnerable to terrorism, plagued with safety problems, and lacks a workable evacuation plan. Ali will work to close Indian Point, while creating a transition plan to safeguard our energy supply and the jobs of our residents who work there.
- Stop the Algonquin Incremental Market (AIM) Pipeline Project: Expanding gas transmission systems increases our reliance on climate-changing fossil fuels and creates serious safety risks for our communities. As State Senator, Ali will work to promote energy conservation and expand renewable energy sources.
